This photography workshop is built around one simple idea: spending meaningful time in incredible places when the light is at its best. We’ll start in Venice, photographing the city as it slows down and wakes up, then gradually make our way into the Dolomites, where the landscapes get bigger, quieter, and more dramatic with each day.
Along the way, we’ll shoot everything from canals and historic architecture to alpine lakes, high mountain passes, and iconic Dolomite peaks. Some locations are famous for a reason, others are just beautiful places to slow down and really work a scene. Sunrise and sunset are a big focus, but there’s plenty of space in between to refine composition, experiment, and develop your own way of seeing.
This trip isn’t about rushing from spot to spot or chasing checklists. It’s about being in the right place at the right time, understanding the light, and coming away with images that feel intentional and personal. Whether you’re drawn to grand landscapes or quieter details, this workshop is designed to help you grow as a photographer while experiencing some of the most stunning scenery in Italy.
Lead by award-winning official Sony Digital Imaging Advocate Andy Yee, this tour will push your photography to the next level. The intimate group size is designed for personal attention to develop your photographic vision.
Spots are limited and you are advised to book with a deposit as soon as possible to not miss out. Please email for further details andy@andyyee.com or contact through the Home page
Dolomites Itinerary
Day 1 – Sept 27 | Venice
We begin in one of the most visually rich cities in the world. As the afternoon light softens, Venice reveals its timeless character through glowing facades, winding canals, and subtle reflections. The evening is dedicated to sunset and blue-hour photography, capturing mood, atmosphere, and the rhythm of the city as day transitions to night. This is an ideal introduction to working with light, composition, and visual storytelling in an urban environment.
Day 2 – Sept 28 | Venice
A full day to immerse yourself in Venice’s layered visual language. From iconic landmarks to quiet backstreets, today focuses on architectural composition, leading lines, textures, and life along the canals. Those seeking color and contrast can explore the lagoon’s islands, while others may focus on intimate scenes and abstracts. This day encourages slowing down, refining composition, and developing a personal visual narrative.
Day 3 – Sept 29 | Venice to Lake Braies
The day begins with sunrise photography in Venice, when the city is calm and beautifully lit. As the scenery transitions from city to mountains, the visual language shifts dramatically. The evening is spent at Lake Braies, one of the Dolomites’ most iconic locations, where still water, forested slopes, and towering peaks come together. Sunset reflections and alpine color provide a powerful contrast to the urban scenes of the previous days.
Day 4 – Sept 30 | Lake Braies & Tre Cime di Lavaredo
An early start rewards us with soft dawn light in a pristine alpine setting, either at Lake Braies or across the open meadows of Prato Piazza. The day unfolds among dramatic mountain landscapes, with opportunities to photograph wide panoramas, layered peaks, and serene high-altitude scenery. As the light fades, we focus on sunset at Tre Cime di Lavaredo, one of the most iconic mountain groups in Europe, capturing scale, drama, and atmosphere.
Day 5 – Oct 1 | Tre Cime di Lavaredo & Cortina
This day offers flexibility to respond to light and conditions. We may return to Tre Cime at sunrise to experience the peaks under completely different light, or work around nearby alpine lakes and valleys. Later, we shift toward Cortina, exploring mountain town scenes and surrounding landscapes. The day culminates with a sunset session at Passo Giau, known for sweeping views and dramatic skies, ideal for strong compositions and layered depth.
Day 6 – Oct 2 | Cinque Torri, Nuvolau, Lagazuoi & Lake Federa
A day dedicated to the high Dolomites, rich in both visual impact and history. Among the Cinque Torri, rugged rock formations rise from open alpine terrain, creating endless compositional possibilities. For those inclined, elevated viewpoints offer expansive panoramas and dramatic perspectives. Additional locations include remote mountain lakes and high ridgelines, where reflections, scale, and light combine to create powerful images.
Day 7 – Oct 3 | Val di Funes
We transition into one of the most picturesque valleys in the Dolomites. The journey itself reveals rolling landscapes, mountain passes, and changing light. Val di Funes is celebrated for its iconic churches set beneath the Odle peaks, offering classic compositions that balance human elements with towering natural forms. Evening light here is especially rewarding, emphasizing depth, texture, and atmosphere.
Day 8 – Oct 4 | Val di Funes & Val Gardena (Ortisei)
The day begins with sunrise in Santa Maddalena, a location renowned for its peaceful foregrounds and dramatic mountain backdrops. We continue exploring the valley, refining compositions and experimenting with perspective. Later, attention shifts to Val Gardena, where high alpine plateaus, sharp ridgelines, and sculpted peaks dominate the landscape. This day emphasizes variety, from intimate scenes to grand vistas.
Day 9 – Oct 5 | Val Gardena
A full day to dive deeper into one of the Dolomites’ most photogenic regions. From Seceda’s striking ridgeline to the dramatic forms of the Sella and Sassolungo groups, the focus is on strong compositions, scale, and light direction. Elevated viewpoints provide sweeping panoramas, while quieter locations allow for thoughtful, refined work. The evening brings a final chance to capture sunset light over the mountains, closing the workshop on a high note.
Day 10 – Oct 6 | Dolomites to Venice
On the final morning, we say goodbye to the Dolomites, with opportunities to photograph last glimpses of alpine scenery as the landscape gradually changes. It’s a reflective close to a journey defined by light, location, and creative growth.
Italian Cuisine and Accommodation
The food in the Dolomites is a delicious blend of Italian and Austrian culinary traditions, with hearty Alpine dishes featuring lots of smoked ham (speck), cheese, and dumplings (canederli) as well as more standard Italian fare like pasta, risotto and polenta. You also find wonderfully rich deserts like apple strudel and kaiserschmarnn, which are shredded pancakes topped with powdered sugar and jam.
The Trento-Alto Adige region also makes some wonderful wines, from crisp whites to tasty reds made from local varietals. Although many dishes include some meat or pork, we can accommodate vegetarian and even vegan diets, and Italy has a lot of gluten-free options for bread and pasta dishes, so we're happy to work around your dietary needs.
The hotels are a mix of comfortable 3- and 4-star hotels plus some mountain chalets which offer the ultimate in Alpine charm. Our hotel in Venice is just steps away from iconic San Marco square and is in a renovated 16th century villa, while our accommodations in the Dolomites are mostly in small family-run hotels, most with in-house spas and saunas.
Some are in cities or towns (Cortina d'Ampezzo, San Pietro di Funes, Ortisei) while others give you direct access to nature (Braies Lake and Lake Antorno) so you can walk out the door and drift into a forest of pine trees under a blanket of stars. Twin rooms can be accommodated as well as single occupancy (for an additional fee).
All rooms on the workshop will be provided as dual occupancy, but there are limited spaces available as a single room, please contact to request the rate.
