Travel Photography Workshop

Travel Photography Workshops: What to Look for in Travel Photo Workshops and a Guided Photography Workshop

Travel photography workshops, or travel photo workshops, entail a professional photographer guiding students through a new place and having them take pictures, making it more or less a guided photography workshop. These workshops have been growing in popularity over the past few decades as technology has allowed photography to become easier for the masses to take great pictures. However, putting yourself in a place where great pictures can be taken is what these travel photography workshops are all about, using the tools and techniques that one learns over the trip to play out in the photos they shoot on the scene.

As one can probably imagine, these travel photography workshops aren’t cheap—not only are you paying for a unique and exotic vacation but you are also paying for a professional photography instructor, along with other types of expensive equipment in many cases. So it’s important to know what to look for when picking these travel photo workshops or a guided photography workshop, so that you can be sure you are getting your money’s worth.

First, look at the past tours this photography workshop has gone on and the photos they have produced after their travels. This will undoubtedly be used for promotion on their company website—oh, make sure they have a great site as well, otherwise they aren’t really worth considering. Also, look for past client reviews on independent websites about the company. Do they get high marks? Try to reach out to some of these past clients directly to get their review of the whole trip. Did they like the photographer? Did they really feel like they were able to see and learn about the country at the same time they were learning about photography, or was it too structured or not structured enough. All of these questions are critical for breaking down what exactly will be spending your money on and deciding whether it is worth it with that particular company. The more info you have, the better.

Do this with a few travel photography workshop options that appeal to you based upon the photography that is shot and the place you will be voyaging to. Once you have done a deep dive of research on each different tour, give each one a call and try to talk to the photographer you will be touring around with to see if you like their vibe. It’s important to respect the person who will be taking you on this trip and educating you about art like photography. Or at least enjoy their company, as you will undoubtedly be spending a lot of time with them on the road.
