Cambodia - (The Giving Lens)
Bustling streets filled with tuk tuks, beautiful colors and delicious aromas from the local markets, with a backdrop of stunning temples and Khmer history. Considered one of the most sought after travel destinations in southeast Asia, Siem Reap offers a mix of new and old, progress and history. The ancient Khmer people were one of the most intuitive civilizations of their time, building colossal temples and waterways that are still considered wonders of the world. Our journey is based in the heart of Siem Reap, where we’ll be a short trip from most of the popular temples surrounding the city.
TGL Cambodia this year will be a return to many of our favorite locations with some new surprises tossed into the adventure! After we get acquainted with the sights and sounds of the city, we’ll visit our partner NGO, Anjali House. Anjali House has been working to offer opportunities to street youth that otherwise wouldn’t have access to basic healthcare, proper nutrition, and education. We’ve been partnering with Anjali House for a number of years to help develop a youth photography program, offering a means of creative expression and to aid in boosting their self esteem. This year is something different – we will be working exclusively with the older, more experience students to do more in-depth workshops and really grow their skills with documenting, storytelling, and fine art photography.
This is a departure from our more accessible “101” workshops. As a participant you just need to be comfortable in a teaching position, one-on-one with a student, even though Team Leaders will be responsible for the actual lessons (and to help you in your role as a mentoring partner to a student). If you’re a novice photographer, you can still apply. In fact, you will learn a lot along the way as well!
After our time with our NGO we’ll explore the temple complexes surrounding the city including the renowned Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm, Bayon and many others.
1 - 12 October 2018
We will ride through and photograph the blue city of Chefchaouen, Roman ruins, the historical capital of Fes, the sand dunes of the Sahara and the highest mountain pass in Morocco before ending the tour in Marrakech. This tour is designed for photographers who want to add cultural photos to their portfolio with a focus on proper coverage of a travel location or story.
MOROCCO - THE GIVING LENS
21 - 30 OCTOBER 2018
We are returning to magical Morocco and this trip is set to be better than ever! We have an incredible, ethic tour company crafting us the perfect visit, an dynamic NGO partner, and jam-packed days waiting for you. Marrakesh, the High Atlas mountains, and the Sahara desert all await you.
JAPAN - Autumn Workshop
In early November Japan explodes into a dazzling array of colour as autumn hits its peak. The Japan Autumn Workshop is timed to sees the flora at its fiery peak; the countryside awash in a sea of reds, oranges and yellows.
This eight-day intensive workshop encapsulates the most exceptional landscapes, temples, shrines, waterfalls and lakes that Japan has to offer, and there will even be some deer too! Lead by landscape award-winning photographer Andy Yee, and accompanied by self-admitted Japanophile Alexander J.E. Bradley, this tour will push your photography to the next level. The intimate group size is designed for personal attention to develop your photographic vision.
We covered some great locations, and the leader's knowledge of the area meant we didn't waste time getting to the best locations at the optimum times. The accommodation and food were excellent, and the leader's knowledge meant we got a good 'taste' of life as well as some truly memorable memories and images.
The learning and sharing from all and the different perspectives of all participants were wonderful. Having the expertise and guidance of three professional photographers added to the value and learning experience of this workshop. The instructors are fantastic, caring and understanding individuals who always went the extra mile to ensure that everyone was comfortable and happy... Definitely customer centric individuals!!
I felt the instructors push you to improve at each shoot and there was great camaraderie between all the participants. I could not recommend this trip enough. An amazing experience made better by the teaching and the company.
